The Joy She Brings Us [30 Weeks]

We’re at 30 Weeks!

She wasn’t supposed to make it this far…

…or at least that’s what we were told initially.

But she’s still here, and she’s kicking harder than ever! She loves hanging out in my ribs - and I love it too because it means she’s still here. Jon is constantly amazed when he feels her moving - or thumping around as I call it. We are both so grateful for this experience. We truly cherish every kick and roll.

Last week, my colleagues threw me a surprise baby shower during our social distancing picnic. I’ll never be able to put into words exactly how much that meant to me. The chance to partake in a normal pregnancy milestone with our sweet girl was amazing. I will cherish that memory forever. Jon and I cried all night going through the sweet gifts and talking and thinking. We are healing as we go.

They say it takes a village to raise a child, but I think it takes a village to carry parents through the unimaginable even more. We couldn’t do this without our village. We will never be able to repay their love.

Listening to Her Everyday

Before COVID-19 we were scheduled to go see our doctor each week to check on Isla and hear her heart. Between risks and restrictions we are not going as often. Which means we were missing many chances to hear her heartbeat. In the middle of the night one night, it occurred to me (duh) that I could totally purchase a handheld doppler so we can hear her whenever we want! And I am so glad I did. There’s nothing better than snuggling up and listening. Or FaceTiming our parents to let them listen. Or sending a sound clip to Jon’s grandmother and learning that she started her day by listening to it yesterday.

Oh baby girl, you are so loved.

We made the active choice to keep her with us as long as possible, and we honor that choice every day. She has been on so many walks. She has had so many snuggles. She gets kisses from our sweet dog Indie (and dad too!). She enjoys warm bubble baths. She is read to daily. She is insanely familiar with the sounds of our favorite music and daddy’s guitar playing. And tonight, she’ll either enjoy another thunderstorm from the balcony or experience her first meteor shower (we’ll see how the weather cooperates).

She may be doing these things while she’s tucked safely inside of me, but to us, she is very much a part of every single moment.
